So do you want the good news or the great news? Well the good news is, we had an amazing night last Friday for our Second Annual Fundraiser.
The event was at the Highlands Hollywood which was filled to slightly over capacity but remained manageable and fun. We couldn't have hoped for a better group of people attending, speaking, volunteering and working the event.
The venue was beautiful and the food was great. Our guest speakers Sam and Justin blew me away with their stories, thoughts, insights and passion. Holly Brook and John sang beautifully and won the crowd over. Our honorees, the Dixie Chicks, were amazing and we are so lucky to have them as donors, supporters and friends. Our vivacious M.C Annie Wood made me laugh and kept the night going with her mega-watt smile and infectious personality and everyone stayed until the very end. Some even stayed outside on the smoking patio until an hour after the event and were somewhat surprised to walk back into a dance party. Someone asked me during the night how it was going and I just said 'look around- this is fantastic!'
Well now for the great news: a lot of our friends are sending in their checks during the next week or so, and this exact thing happened last year, but as of right now we are at just over $50,000 and from the promises that we have been given should be able to hit our $60,000 target to buy the well drilling rig.
Some of the schools that we have been working with have as many as 2300 children, so when we get our rig going we should be able to provide water to well over 100,000 children over the next two years.
We are all exhausted but so incredibly happy about the event and all of the money that we raised and know that we could never have done it without all of your help.
A few members of Drop in the Bucket are leaving for Africa in a few days and hope to catch up on our sleep on the plane, and I'm sure that by the time we get back we'll have everything in place to buy the drilling rig and get it all going.
Everyone that attended, donated, helped or contributed in any way that night was amazing and I am certain that in the scheme of things last Friday night's event will make a huge difference in a lot of peoples’ lives. I still can't believe what a great group of people we have around us and how fortunate we all are.
