Building a well

  • This is the way 1.1 billion people get their water
  • These children will have to walk three miles carrying this water home
  • They have no choice as this is the only water available to them
  • Often their water is much closer, maybe only a few hundred feet away
  • But they have no way to access it without a well drilling rig
  • It takes on average two weeks for us to complete a well
  • If maintained properly wells can last indefinitely
  • Saving thousands of lives and affecting several generations health
  • Water related illness is the number one killer of children in Saharan Africa
  • Once the well is drilled an apron is built at the top of it
  • The apron directs spilled water away from the well which helps prevent malaria
  • And other diseases caused by pools of stagnant water that attract mosquitoes
  • The cement is meticulously shaped by hand
  • After it has been left to dry, the pump and pipes are fitted
  • All it takes to change thousands of lives is a well
  • Please help us change lives like these
