Ashley and Edie are two young girls from Salt Lake City. They just raised $4100 to give a school in Uganda a water well. Here is the letter Ashley wrote us.
Hi, my name is Ashley and I am eleven years old. About three years ago I saw an Oprah where these children went to Africa and built a well in a village that needed clean water. They also talked about how far they have to travel a day to get even non-clean water and how the water is not only used for drinking, but to bathe, wash clothing, and a place where animals swim. Every day over 25,000 people die of un-clean water illnesses, which can be prevented.
Ever since I have seen that Oprah I have been saving money with my best friend Edie, together we have raised over 3,000 dollars. We have chosen to donate the money to an organization called Drop in the Bucket. I am very excited to see where they decide to put the well. I love knowing that this money will help save the lives of so many people instead of using the money on pointless things. I would love to some day go and see the well and see how it has helped and saved the people and their village.
I'm Edie and I an 12 years old, I am in the seventh grade. When Ashley got the idea to raise enough money for a freash water well I was really glad that I was asked to help.
Luckily Ashley's parents own an art licensing company and they had thousands of samples of rugs, mugs, puzzles, coasters and all kinds of things that they let us sell. Along with my parents and Ashley's parents we organized a sample sale. We raised $4100. We worked very hard to get these poor people in a village in Africa some clean water.
I'm grateful for my best friend Ashley and how she introduced me to this wonderful cause. I'm glad she saw that episode of Oprah because it helped me realize how blessed we are to live where we live and have what we have, when there are people on the other side of the world that have so little.
Thank You so much Ashley, Edie and your families, you have made a huge difference in so many lives.
