Alela Modern Primary School

The Alela Modern Primary School is in the Alebtong District of Onywako parish of the Barr sub-county in Uganda. The nearest large town is Lira. The school has three villages around it that also had no source of clean water.

Drop in the Bucket saw how bad the toilets were at the school and drilled a well on the school grounds. We also built flush toilets and a bio-digestion septic system, fitted with a roundabout pump, a reservoir tank and a hand washing station.

When we first started working at the school theere were 823 pupils; 422 boys and 401 girls. The school now has 1018 pupils. Also the schools test scores have shot up dramatically, which the head teacher attributes directly to the school’s improved sanitation.
