Wairasa Uganda

This rural village in Eastern Uganda has a population of approximately 1200 people. The water they consumed was drawn from a dangerous and stagnant hole – which was a breeding ground for Malaria-transmitting mosquitoes. This water source was also four miles from most homes and used by domestic animals as well as people.

In October 2006, Drop In The Bucket installed their first two wells in Wairasa. We began the process by commissioning a hydro-geological survey. The results of this study determined the location and depth of underground water. Next, we traveled to Wairasa to oversee the digging and instillation of the wells.
